In 1996, a concerned group of pastors came together to address the growing number of homeless persons in Nelson County. The pastors, along with the Nelson County Judge Executive, began working with Bardstown Housing Authority to secure an affordable site to serve as the shelter, thus began Bethany Haven. In 1997, Bethany Haven, Inc. obtained 501(c)3 public charity status. Shortly thereafter, Bethany Haven opened its doors at 512 W. Edelen Ave. Bardstown, Kentucky to provide emergency housing to the homeless.
Now, we serve as transitional housing. Our goal is to create an environment where the residents can work on successfully transitioning into stable housing for themselves.
Currently, we are working with the Tri-County United Way and St. Vincent DePaul in Bardstown to explore and hopefully implement a program called Room in the Inn to provide emergency shelter for the homeless people of Nelson County.
